Tottenham’s Dele Alli has hit back at his critics and insisted that he doesn’t want to get back to where he was because he wants to go ‘past that’.

In recent weeks, Alli has been heavily criticised by ex-players, with the Spurs man honestly stating that some of the criticism ‘hurts’, but he also thinks ‘certain people’ say stuff for the sake of it.

Alli was on the scoresheet once again for Tottenham as they recorded a 1-1 draw at Everton – the England man has now netted two goals from his last three Premier League matches.

Speaking to Sky Sports Premier League (03/11/2019 at 6:50 pm), Alli was first asked whether or not the criticism he receives stings.

“Depends who it is from,” Alli told Sky Sports. “There are certain people that when they say something it hurts, it really kicks you up the backside. And there are some who say stuff and you sort of roll your eyes at it, in one ear and out the other.

On whether he agrees that his form has dipped before today [Everton’s game]: “I wouldn’t say before today. I think maybe last week against Liverpool, I didn’t perform as well as I can. But if you look at the other games I have played in, Watford and the Champions League, I think I played well.

“I’m definitely improving again. People always say, ‘oh, can Dele get back to where he was?’ I don’t want to get back to where I was, I want to go past that, keep working hard and keep improving. Like I said before, I’m not going to listen to too much of what people say because some people say it because it’s their job to say something, or I don’t think some people say stuff to help.”

Alli’s lack or dip in form isn’t helped by the fact that Spurs have been pretty woeful this season, as there are no clear signs of improvements, at this moment in time.

It does look like there will be big changes at the club during these next 12 months and the Spurs supporters hope, Alli, will be part of that positive change.

Whilst certain players may depart next summer, the Spurs faithful are hopeful that Alli can find his feet once again and be that long-term answer for the club in the middle of the park.
