Mysuru: On Sunday, Mysuru witnessed a unique wedding with a Netherlands-based groom and a Kannadiga bride exchanging garlands at a hall here.
The bride, Anu S Nettar is the daughter of noted women's rights activist, Ms Sumana B.N. and so there were no rituals such as the tying of the Maangalya dhaarane ( when the groom ties the mangalsutra on the bride).
They exchanged garlands and walked together for the customary sapthapati taking the oath for a happy life together.
Later the couple did not fail to enjoy the Karnataka style dishes though less spicy, with over 40 friends from the Netherlands, Poland, America, Spain, Germany, Belgium and other countries. Joining the bridge and groom were kids and women from Shakthidhama relief centre who enjoyed a plantain leaf lunch spread with holige, jamoon and others Sunday afternoon.
At dinner, they were joined by kids from the NGO, Deenabandu of Chamarajanagar.
Anu Nettar did her LLB at JSS Law College in Mysuru and her masters in law in Netherlands and works with Free Press Unlimited at Amsterdam in Netherlands.
The groom, Rene Van Bogourt, son of Ms Gloria and Mr Lu, is a mortgage advisor at a bank in Netherlands.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Ms Sumana said, "The couple met through a common friend when Anu had been to the Netherlands for her masters degree and fell in love. When they decided to get married, they called us up over phone and informed us. We went to Netherlands and met the boy and were happy about our daughter's choice. The groom and his parents have learnt Kannada, Rene's father spoke 20 sentences in Kannada on wedding eve,” she said.
The first sentence the bride reportedly taught her would be husband was how to propose to her in Kannada by saying, ‘Naanu ninnannu preethisuththene’ (I love you!).
