A collection of things to do in Moscow this week

7:00 p.m. Monday | City of Moscow City Council Meeting
Council Chambers, City Hall, 206 East Third Street
The City of Moscow City Council hosts regular meetings open to the public. The council “serves as the legislative and judicial arm of the City government,” according to the Moscow Chamber of Commerce Website, by enacting local laws, passing policies and more. Three city council members will be up for election November 5.

7:00 p.m. Tuesday | Common Read Address
International Ballroom, Bruce M. Pitman Center
Tommy Orange, author of “There There,” will present a lecture for this year’s Common Read Address. The novel follows twelve characters from Native American communities, connected by complex histories, identity and more. Orange graduated from the Institute of American Indian Arts with an MFA and is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes.

7 p.m. Wednesday | Chinese Ecocinema Series: Under the Dome
Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre, 508 Main Street
The Kenworthy will show Under the Dome as a continuation of their Chinese Ecocinema Series. In Under the Dome, China Central Television reporter Chai Jing investigates how air pollution affects populations of China’s larger cities.

5 p.m. Thursday | A Native Night: Back to our Roots
Appaloosa Museum and Heritage Center, 2720 Pullman Road, Moscow
The Appaloosa Museum and Heritage Center will invite Brian McCormack and Sandra McFarland of the Nez Perce tribe to speak about the native plants of the Palouse Thursday evening. Appetizers and beverages will be provided. Tickets are $15 and are available at the museum or online.

4 p.m. Friday | Buying Their Way In: Redistribution of Campaign Resources as a Path to State Legislative Leadership for Women
Teaching and Learning Center room 023
Jaclyn Kettler of Boise State University will give a lecture about redistribution of campaign resources and leadership for women.

9 a.m. Saturday | Make a Difference Day
International Ballroom, Bruce M. Pitman Center
Vandals are invited to participate in the second largest day of service in the academic year. Students can sign up as individuals or in groups. Volunteers will serve in projects the surrounding community.

11 a.m. Sunday | Harvest Dinner
1912 Center, 412 E. Third Street
The Latah County Historical Society will host a meal of bottomless soup and stew with salad, rolls and homemade dessert. Local pianist Cecily Groves will perform during the meal and attendees will be able to visit an arts workshop, no-host bar and silent auction.  Tickets are $20 for members and $18 for non-members. Tickets for children ages 7-12 are $10 while children under 7 can enter for free. Tickets are available at the historical society office or website.

5:30 p.m. Monday | Veterans Appreciation Dinner
International Ballroom, Bruce M. Pitman Center
Major General Erik Peterson will serve as keynote speaker on the 101st anniversary of Veterans Day. Doors for the event will open at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6 p.m. Veterans and one guest are welcome for free. It is recommended to RSVP by calling 208-885-4152 by Thursday, November 7.
