Delhi Police vs Lawyers Highlights: Delhi policemen finally called off their 11-hour protest on Tuesday evening after assurance of redressal of grievances from senior cops. Senior officers also assured them that their demands are being looked into. The attack on the policemen are also being taken seriously, they added. Following clashes that broke out between the police and the lawyers in Tis Hazari and Saket court, the cops have demanded a union for their welfare. Special CP (Crime) Satish Golcha Tuesday announced Rs 25,000 ex gratia for injured cops and urged his colleagues to end stir and join duties.
Centre on Tuesday told the Delhi High Court that the latter’s order to not use any coercive action against the lawyers cannot be applicable on subsequent events. Based on this plea, the court issued a notice to BCI and other bar associations. The lawyers on the demanded a ban on media showing video of the clash, which they said could make the situation worse. However, the HC declined to pass the interim order and posted the hearing in the case to Wednesday.
Earlier in the Bar Council of India (BCI) condemned the violence at Tis Hazari and Saket court on Saturday and Monday, respectively, and asked bar bodies to identify the elements indulging in hooliganism and appealed to protesting advocates to join work. He asked them to “think about the issue from legal view point and not become a laughing stock in the aftermath of Tis Hazari violence.”

Licences of guilty lawyers should be cancelled and the courts should treat all parties equally, the Central IPS Association said in a resolution on Tuesday. The association, which is the umbrella organisation for all state Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, held an urgent general body meeting at the NIA headquarters here.
"All lawyers who were part of the violence should be identified and befitting legal action, including cancellation of their licences, should be initiated.
"The court should treat all parties equitably and grant justice," the resolution said. "We pledge to serve you better.We stand in solidarity with our brethren of Delhi Police, express our deep anguish and strongly condemn the attacks on police officers and staff on duty in various court complexes in Delhi," the association said in the resolution. Puducherry Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi on Tuesday advised Delhi Police to remain firm on its stand on Saturday's police-lawyers clash at Tis Hazari court come what may.
Reacting to the incident, she told PTI that she faced a similar situation in January 1988 when a lawyer arrested for theft in St. Stephen's college was brought to the Tis Hazari court in handcuffs.
"But I remained firm and refused to budge to the demand of the lawyers seeking suspension/arrest of the cops responsible for hand cuffing the advocate," she said, adding that the person did not identify himself as an advocate at the time of his arrest and also gave a different name to the police. The Tamil Nadu chapter of IPS Officers' Association on Tuesday slammed the assault on Delhi police personnel in the Tis Hazari court in the national capital and said such incidents "show lack of respect for the rule of law."
The association demanded "strong action against the law breakers without fear or favour" and said it stood shoulder to shoulder with the men in Khaki in Delhi.
"TN Chapter of IPS Association condemns the recent incident of violence against the policemen on duty in Tis Hazari court in Delhi," it said in a statement. (PTI)

The Delhi government wants an immediate solution to the police-lawyer standoff, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Tuesday, terming the prevailing situation "unfortunate".

Senior Delhi Police officers appeal to the cops to end the protest outside the police headquarters. They assured that the attack on the cops is being taken seriously and the demands by the protesters are being looked into.

After a series of tense events following clashes between lawyers and the police at Tis Hazari Courts here, the Bar Council of India has asked various bar bodies to identify lawyers "indulging in hooliganism" and requested advocates to end their protests, which are "bringing bad name to the institution".
BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said in a letter that sparing such "rowdy elements" is tarnishing the image of the institution and it is the inaction and tolerance of bar bodies that encourage these advocates, which would ultimately result in "contempt proceedings by the high courts or Supreme Court". Two FIRs have been registered, in connection with the violence outside Saket District Court on November 4. One FIR is based on the complaint by the police officer who was thrashed by a lawyer and another on the complaint of a taxi driver who was hit with a steel rod.
The Congress on Tuesday said the police protesting on the roads in the national capital is a "new low" for India since independence and questioned Home Minister Amit Shah's silence on the issue. Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala asked whether this is BJP's 'New India' and wondered where the ruling party is taking the country to.
