LUCKNOW: With just a week to go for the 550th birth anniversary of
Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, city gurdwaras have started a series of programmes to usher in festivities.
With 'langars' and 'kirtans', the city will wear a festive look till Gurupurab celebrations on November 12.
After holding a grand 'nagar kirtan' on Sunday,
Gurdwara Naka Hindola is set to take out a 'Jagriti Yatra' on Thursday to highlight the philosophy and teachings of Guru Nanak.
The yatra will commence from Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara in
Indiranagar and will pass through prominent areas of the city including Tedhipuliya, Charbagh and Alambagh to culminate at Gurdwara Mansarovar in LDA Colony.
Celebrations at Gurdwara Yahiyaganj will begin on November 9 with the recital of 'Guru ki Baani' (hymns) by 'ragis' (musicians) of all city gurdwara. This will be followed by a gathering of poets from Punjab at Gurdwara Chandarnagar on November 10, engaging devotees in recitation of poetry on Guru Nanak and other Sikh gurus in a 'kavi darbar'.
During last two days ahead of Gurupurab, regular 'paath', 'kirtan' and 'Guru ka langar' will be organised after the ritual of 'diwan sajna' where the Guru Granth Sahib is laid ceremoniously.
