At Lasalgaon market, onion price nears all-time high

The average wholesale onion price at the Lasalgaon APMC, the country's largest wholesale onion market, shot up by Rs 650 to touch Rs 5,551 per quintal on Monday, nearing the all-time high of Rs 5,700 per quintal recorded on August 22, 2015.

NASHIK: The average wholesale onion price at the Lasalgaon APMC, the country's largest wholesale onion market, shot up by Rs 650 to touch Rs 5,551 per quintal on Monday, nearing the all-time high of Rs 5,700 per quintal recorded on August 22, 2015.
APMC officials said onion supplies have been hit due to the rains. The average wholesale onion prices have increased by 126% in the past 15 days, up from Rs 2,450 per quintal on October 18 to Rs 5,551 now.
In the Nashik retail markets, onions are being sold at Rs 70 per kg.
The retail prices have increased by Rs 30 per kg in the past few days.
The wholesale price of the bulb had recorded an all-time high of Rs 5,700 per quintal on August 22, 2015 at Lasalgaon. APMC sources said the wholesale price is expected to go up to Rs 6,000 per quintal and will record a new all-time high in next 2-3 days.
On Monday, the minimum and maximum wholesale onion price was recorded at Rs 2,300 and Rs 5,757 per quintal respectively. Around 1,800 quintals of onions were auctioned at Lasalgaon.
