Sioux Falls man charged with choking woman in Salem

SALEM — A Sioux Falls man has been charged with assault for allegedly choking a woman in Salem on Oct. 22.

Bryce Unruh, 21, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and interference with emergency communications.

At 3:33 a.m. on Oct. 23, law enforcement was called to a residence in Dell Rapids to speak to the woman who reported Unruh had assaulted her the previous night.

According to court documents, the woman said she and Unruh had gotten into an argument around 9:30 or 10 p.m. at a house on North Pierce Street in Salem and that Unruh had kept her from calling police and had choked her.

The woman reportedly said that after the altercation, at 1:30 or 2 a.m., Unruh made her drive him to Tea, where she dropped him off before going to Dell Rapids.

According to a report from the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office, the woman complained of pain in her head, back and neck, and marks on her neck and swelling and a cut on her lip were visible.
