NEW DELHI: More than 24 hours after a policeman was allegedly beaten up outside the Saket Courts by a group of lawyers, Delhi Police on Tuesday registered an FIR based on the complaint filed by a constable named Karan. The video of the incident had gone viral on social media.
Another case was registered on the complaint of Ravi Prakash, a taxi driver, who was allegedly hit with a steel rod and sustained a fracture in the left hand.

In his complaint, Karan stated that he had to get a railway warrant issued for investigation into a case and he had to reach room number 12 at Saket Courts for the purpose. The constable had to travel to Telangana.
Karan said, “When I reached gate number 3, a couple of lawyers stopped me. One of them told me that policemen were not allowed in the court premises. They started abusing me and threatened to kill me. Before I could even say anything, they started hitting me and did not let me carry out my duty. One of them even took my helmet away. While I was turning my motorcycle to leave, he threw the helmet at me.”
DCP (South) Atul Kumar Thakur said, “A case under IPC sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 392 (punishment for robbery), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) was registered at Saket police station.”
“We are trying to identify the accused seen in the video. Apart from the man who hit the police officer, there were others who abused him. Legal action will be taken against them,” said an officer.
The second case was registered on the complaint of taxi driver Ravi Prakash, who alleged that he was driving towards Saket Courts when he was stopped by the lawyers. “They gathered around and thrashed me. When I asked them the reason, they abused me. One of them then picked up a steel rod and threw it at my head. However, I ducked and the rod landed on my left hand,” said Prakash.
