An independent city centre cinema has hit out at travel bosses after roadworks around the venue have been causing "mayhem".

The roadworks have been ongoing for months

CEO at the Light House Kelly Jeffs has said a lot of her customers have been affected, as well as customers at her neighbouring local businesses based in Fryer Street.

She said: "Every single customer who comes in, they mention it. So it's having to deal with that conversation. There's a lot of inpatience.

"We try explaining to them and say it's obviously difficult but it does take a lot of time.

"We get a lot of senior customers too, so we do explain to them on the phone to allow extra time for their journey and that they will have to walk further to get here.

"It's just a bit frustrating as we have never been consulted. We can see the disruption but we're not told that we should warn customers about anything."

Kelly wrote a public message on Twitter alerting Wolverhampton Council of the disruption.

She asked: "Could you advise on how long the pavement blockages will be causing total mayhem to our customers and other local businesses around the bus station? We understand there will be some disruption but if someone could advise on time scale that would be helpful."

The council's partners at Midland Metro Alliance replied and apologised for the inconvenience.

A spokesman said: "The works are due to be completed by Monday, November 11 where pedestrian barriers will be removed. Thank you for your continued patience and apologies for any inconvenience."

The road works are currently in place around the city's bus station, and along Piper's Row, to make way for a new tram line.
