PATNA: BJP working president J P Nadda said on Tuesday the developmental concerns of Bihar are on the “priority list” of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
“I assure you that Bihar will get top priority at the Centre. Today, the face of Bihar under its government has changed when PM Modi has also been running the government at the Centre and managing the country’s economy.
If the country progresses, Bihar will also forge ahead,” Nadda said.
Nadda was here on one-day visit to address a function organized to observe the death anniversary of former governor Kailashpati Mishra whom the party’s rank and file in the state recognize as the BJP’s “grand patriarch” who built the base of its earlier avatar Bharatiya Jan Sangh (BJS) from scratch in the post-Independence since its formation in 1951.
It was Nadda’s first visit to the state after becoming the party’s national working president. Incidentally, he had started his initial political activities in his student days as a member of the Patna town unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and later rose in the ranks of the BJP.
Pointing to the concerns of PM Modi about protecting the interests of different sections of the society, Nadda said he, on Monday, refused to sign the 16-nation Regional Comprehensive Economic Cooperation (RCEP) agreement at Bangkok (Thailand). “As many as 15 countries were ready to sign the agreement, but PM Modi said its existing provisions required revisit because they were against the interests of different economic groups in India and, therefore, the agreement could not be signed.”

He also recalled various schemes of the Centre, like Ujjwala and Ayushman Bharat, pointing out that the latter had also been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and would now be replicated in other countries. He said the country has also made new strides in its defence capability to meet any crunch situation, besides isolating Pakistan at the UN General Assembly meet with his highly imaginative remark that India has given to the world not “yuddha (war) but the Buddha”. “The world leaders like Donald Trump and Xi Jinpeng have been going out of way to court him and India,” Nadda said.
While the BJP had expanded spectacularly in the country and become the largest political party in the world with 17 crore members since 2014, it has marginalized the Congress and the Left parties nationally, he said. “Privately, the Congress people say BJP has left no space for them and the Left parties have confined themselves merely to campus politics,” Nadda added, pointing out that the Modi government had also taken care of the job quota interests of various sections.
Earlier, deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi (SuMo) presented a fact file regarding the various big infrastructural projects that came to Bihar under the rule of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Modi, insisting that the country and Bihar always made economic progress under the non-Congress governments.
