MUZAFFARPUR: The CBI on Wednesday announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for providing information in the case related to kidnapping of a minor girl Navruna Chakravorty.
Navruna, a 14-year-old Class VII student went missing from her home at Chakravorty Lane besides Jawaharlal Road under the Town police station area on the intervening night of September 18-19, 2012. Later, her murder was confirmed after the DNA test of some skeletons recovered from the drainage, adjacent to her residence on November 26, 2012.
The state government had recommended a CBI inquiry in September 2013 after lot of hue and cry and series of protest march before filing a writ petition in the Supreme Court.
Later, the case was handed over to the CBI in February 2014 after registering an FIR.
The CBI has put up dozens of posters in Hindi at strategic locations in Muzaffarpur district, including the town area, announcing a cash reward of Rs 10lakh to anyone who provides any information related to Navruna’s kidnapping and murder.
A superintendent rank official of CBI and incharge of the case, Ajay Kumar, confirmed the move saying the agency had a lot to do in the case. “We still have little information and evidences in the case. Hence we have taken this step,” he said.
Meanwhile, Navruna’s father Atulya Chakravorty expressed his annoyance over the steps being taken by the CBI. Criticizing the CBI move he said, “The CBI officials are wasting their time. They have not properly dealth with the case. It is evident from the fact that they have sought more time from the apex court,” Chakravorty said.
