Patna HC seeks state's reply on Anant’s plea to get AK-47 and grenade recovery case investigated by CBI

PATNA: The Patna high court on Thursday directed the state government to file a reply within four weeks’ time over independent Mokama MLA cum strongman Anant Kumar Singh plea to get the case of AK-47 assault rifle and grenade recovery from his private residence investigated by an independent agency like CBI.
The MLA has impleaded Rajeev Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Niraj Kumar, Lipi Singh and Sanjeet Kumar as respondents in the case in their personal capacity.

Lalan Singh is presently member of parliament from Munger constituency from JD(U). Anant’s wife Neelam Devi had unsuccessfully contested against him on Congress ticker. Niraj is a JD(U) MLC and presently minister of information and public relation department. Lipi is a Bihar cadre IPS officer of 2016 batch and is posted at sub-divisional police officer at Barh while Sanjeet is station house officer (SHO) of Barh police station.
The independent MLA had specifically taken names of Lalan and all these persons for hatching conspiracy to frame him in criminal cases including that of recovery of assault rifle and grenades for political vendetta and he possess threat to life too. He had alleged that all these things started after he quit JD(U).
Singh had also annexed photographs of several persons including of the MP and MLA in an attempt to prove the court that they were involved in hatching conspiracy for framing him in false cases.
The petitioner had also pleaded to the court that he doesn’t possess faith in state police that it will conduct free and fair investigation of all the cases against him.
The matter had turned up for hearing before bench of Justice Ashwani Kumar Singh who gave a long hearing to submissions of counsel Ajay Thakur who appeared on behalf of petitioner before finally ordering the state government to file its reply. Court fixed the matter for next hearing on December 5.

It was on August 16 when an assault rifle, its 26 live cartridges and two hand grenades were recovered from Anant’s private residence at village Ladma in Barh during a police raid. Police had raided his official residence near old secretariat on intervening night of August 17 and August 18 to arrest him but he had escaped.
Singh finally surfaced in Delhi on August 23 and surrendered before a metropolitan magistrate court. Police had also filed chargesheet against Anant in the recovery case on Tuesday.
