A 21-year-old transgender person died and two other transgender persons were injured after allegedly falling off a moving train, close to Dahod railway station on Thursday afternoon. On investigation, the police identified the deceased person as Arohi and the injured were identified as Nirali (18) and Naina (26).

The three of them had boarded the Ratlam bound train from Dahod and entered the general compartment of the train to beg for money, the police said.

Arohi fell off the train and hit her head on a boulder, which instantly killed her. Nirali and Naina were injured on their hands and head and were rushed to a hospital for treatment, the police said.

Local residents who gathered at the spot immediately informed the railway police. The three persons were regulars on the train and were often spotted by daily commuters, the police said. Dahod Railway Police has registered a case of accidental death in the matter for now but are investigating other possibilities too.

Police said that preliminary investigations show that Arohi accidentally fell off the train while she was standing close to the gate of the train compartment, while Nirali and Naina fell while trying to stop her from falling. “On questioning, Nirali and Naina told us that Arohi slipped and fell from the train and the two fell down while trying to save her. Based on these statements we have registered a case of accidental death,” investigating officer KB Dindor said. “But we still have to verify the claims. We are also looking into the possibilities that they might have been pushed out of the train on purpose by some fourth person, or that they fought amongst themselves and pushed each other,” he added. “We are investigating all possibilities at the moment. Most passengers in the compartment were daily commuters and we will record their statements as well. Nirali and Naina are undergoing treatment in the hospital and we will wait for them to get discharged before we question them further,” the investigating officer said.
