Gujarat: 10-year-old ‘molested’, accused on the run

Police said the girl was on her way to the madrasa when the accused allegedly lured her to the terrace and touched her inappropriately. He lives and works in the same neighbourhood, police said.

A car mechanic was booked Thursday for allegedly molesting a 10-year-old girl on the terrace of a madrasa in Panchmahal district four days ago. The girl’s father, an auto driver, lodged a complaint at Godhra police station Thursday.

Police said the girl was on her way to the madrasa when the accused allegedly lured her to the terrace and touched her inappropriately. He lives and works in the same neighbourhood, police said.

The girl went home and told her parents but the accused was not known to her by name. “The father took pictures of men working in the locality to show his daughter and ascertain his identity before approaching the police. This caused delay in registration of the complaint,” investigating officer B R Gohil said.

“We are trying to trace the man,” Gohil added.

The accused has been booked under IPC section 354 (a) (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment) and under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
