Speaking at one of the protests, Selja blamed the BJP for economic slowdown, unemployment, agrarian crisis and inflation in the country. “Instead of pushing the country into financial emergency, the government should take concrete steps to improve livelihood, trade and agriculture. Economic disparity needs to be looked into on an immediate basis,” she said.

“Due to wrong policies of the government, the economy of the country has stagnated completely and all economic sectors and industries are being ruined. Thousands of big and small industries have been shut down from Haryana. Today, our youth has almost zero employment opportunities. Those who have jobs are either losing them or are on the verge of being laid off. Overall, Haryana has the highest unemployment rate in the entire country. People’s pockets are empty and they are finding difficult even to survive.”

Festive offer

Talking about farmers, Selja said, “Today, crop is not being procured and the farmer is not getting proper price for his crop, due to which he is forced to sell off his produce at lower rates. For the first time in the history of India, agricultural inputs, implements and equipments have been taxed.”

“Inflation has broken all records. Prices of vegetables have been skyrocketing. Onions have disappeared from people’s plates, as its prices have reached Rs 100 per kilogram. Petrol and diesel prices are constantly increasing. It was the people of BJP who used to make the most noise when there was little inflation while being in Opposition. But after assuming power, they are silent on the issue,” the Congress leader said.
