Mumbai rains: Downpour in Thane and Palghar as cyclone Maha weakens

The cyclone has now weakened into a low-pressure area and is currently over the Gulf of Cambay off Konkan and South Gujarat Coast.

The remnants of Cyclone Maha caused unseasonal rains in parts of Mumbai including — Thane, Malad and Palghar — on Thursday evening and are likely to continue today as well. The Skymet stated that the weather will likely clear by Saturday.

The cyclone has now weakened into a low-pressure area and is currently over the Gulf of Cambay off Konkan and South Gujarat Coast.

No casualties were reported during the downpour, however, low-lying areas in the districts witnessed water-logging, PTI reported citing a DDMC report.

The report further stated that seashore villages of Dahanu, Chinchani, Boisar, Safale and Kelve in Palghar district received heavy showers.

In the last 24 hours, Thane has recorded 59.94 mm rainfall, taking the season’s total to 4,565.10 mm.

In the wake of Cyclone Maha, Thane and Palghar district administrations had taken precautionary measures. The Palghar district administration had directed closure of educational institutions between November 6 and 8.

As ‘severe cyclonic storm’ Maha weakened into a deep depression Thursday morning, it brought heavy rainfall along coastal Saurashtra districts and a few districts in south and central Gujarat including Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Chhota Udepur, Vadodara, Narmada, Ahmedabad, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Surat, Tapi, Bharuch and Dahod.
