CORAL SPRINGS, FLA. (WSVN) - Police have arrested a man who, they said, fatally shot a man outside his Coral Springs home.

Tevaughn Campbell, 27, was taken into custody on Thursday night after he allegedly shot and killed 48-year-old Hicksbert Dwight Grant on Oct. 29.

Coral Springs Police and Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene along Northwest 38th Street and Rock Island Road at around 9:15 p.m. that night to find Grant suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was transported to Broward Health North where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police believe the shooting was a result of a robbery gone wrong and that Grant was randomly targeted.

“We also have statements that he was on the way to commit additional robberies when we took him into custody,” a police spokesperson said. “I think you can ascertain that he was very cold-hearted and cold-blooded predator, vicious.

Police said they recovered the gun used in killing, tracked down the shooter by using his vehicle and linked his DNA to a skull cap left at the scene.

Campbell has been charged with first-degree murder with a firearm.

“He’s looking at first-degree homicide and may never get out of prison, hopefully,” a police spokesperson said.

He is expected to stand before a judge, Friday afternoon.

Police said they are working with other jurisdictions to see if Campbell was involved in other violent crimes across Florida.
