PATNA: The lawyers of Patna civil court abstained from work on Friday in support of their counterparts if Tis Hazari court in Delhi. A group of Patna high court lawyers also protested near the eastern gate on Bailey Road to lodge their protest against Delhi police’s alleged indiscipline and attack on Tis Hazari advocates. The police and advocates had a massive clash on Tis Hazari court premises on November 2.
The civil court lawyers’ decision to abstain from work whole day left the litigants high and dry.
Even the hearing in Mokama MLA Anant Singh’s AK-47 rifle and grenades recovery case was affected and the bahubali MLA was sent back to Bhagalpur jail where he is lodged.
Bihar State Bar Council (BSBC) member Shahnaz Fatma said shooting in the chest by Delhi police clearly indicated their intentions to kill the two lawyers. “They had violated the police manual as they neither fired in the air nor shot the lawyers in their legs,” she alleged and demanded arrest of the police personnel involved in the shooting.
She said lawyers at Paliganj sub-divisional court in Patna district had also symbolically abstained from work on Thursday to support their Delhi counterparts. Fatma said they would again stage protest on Monday.
Patna civil court public prosecutor Vijay Kumar Sinha, when asked, said no routine legal work could be taken up.
BSBC secretary Ashok Kumar told this newspaper that the state bar council had taken a decision to abstain from legal work. “We are waiting for directions from the Bar Council of India,” he added.
