Kürütsechu self-help group from Nagaland is said to have won an award for initiatives associated with restoration of cotton plantation.


Dimapur, Nov. 9 (EMN):
A self-help group from Nagaland is said to have won an award at the 7th Balipara Foundation Social Recognition Awards that was held in Guwahati.

Utpal Saikia from Frontrunner Communication at Guwahati issued on Thursday a press release to the media. The Balipara Social Recognition Awards was introduced by the Balipara Foundation in 2013, and stands as a platform to reward and encourage the efforts of grassroot conservationists and social entrepreneurs working for the preservation of biodiversity of the eastern Himalayas, the note stated.

The awards celebrated 14 winners from across seven states and four countries, the updates stated.

Kürütsechu self-help group from Nagaland won the Naturenomics Award, presented by Dr. Dibakar Goswami, a Hydrogeologist, from Washington, for their initiative to restore and revive a ‘heritage practice’ of cotton cultivation, and in the process encouraging communities towards a sustainable rural future, the press release stated.
