SECUNDERABAD: Police have been looking at several job fraud cases from Secunderabad and adjoining areas, with special emphasis on back-door entry for government jobs.
"There have been instances of offenders luring victims by saying that they have good contacts within government departments such as railways or defence. As Secunderabad covers the cantonment area and consists of the South Central Railway(SCR), people tend to believe it," said a police officer from North Zone.
In a recent case, a person who had earlier worked as railway employee duped victims on the pretext of providing them jobs in railways.

A 35-year-old victim from Malkajgiri was duped of Rs 3 lakh on the pretext of a job in railways. The victim paid Rs 1.1 lakh in May in three instalments. The offender made the victim believe that the offer was authentic by conducting medical check-ups. The accused postponed the joining dates several times following which the victim approached the police and filed a complaint.
"A cousin who was preparing for a government job was offered a back-door entry in Metro Rail in December last year. The person claimed to have good contacts in L&T and other departments. But when we insisted on a meeting with his contacts at Metro Rail just to be sure, later he stopped picking up calls. We then realised that this was a scam," said B Hareesh, a resident of Old Alwal.
In the last two years, cases of online and offline job fraud have witnessed a rise in the city, officials said

"Irrespective of whether it is a part-time job or a position at a multi-national company, victims fall into the trap, as offenders hav developed ways to make the offer seem authentic. Some o even provide offer letters or conduct fake tests to make the offer look genuine. They take money on the pretext of registration and other charges," said ACP Harinath, cybercrime, Rachakonda.
