NEW DELHI: A jewellery shop was robbed near Rohini on Saturday afternoon, when only the owner and one of his employees were present. The incident was captured on CCTV, police said. The criminals made away with cash and jewellery worth over Rs 30 lakh.
Police officers said they have some clues but no arrests have been made yet. The incident has created panic among the jewellers in the area. Cops rushed to the spot after receiving a PCR call at 1pm.
Owner of Sriram jewellers in Begampur told cops that he was at his shop with a staff, while others had gone for lunch, when the robbers came.
The footage shows two of the four criminals coming into the shop posing as customers. They ask the jeweller to show them rings and necklaces. As soon he displays the items, two others barge in with pistols and assault the jeweller.
The footage shows the staffer being brutally thrashed with pistols, punched and kicked after being thrown on the floor. The robbers then pack the jewellery in a blue bag and leave after threatening the jeweller.
Police said they have registered an FIR and formed teams led by a SHO rank officer to arrest the accused. The Crime Branch was also working on identifying and locating the accused. The owner has reported loss of over 600gm gold, Rs 1 lakh in cash and silver jewellery.
Cops also spotted a white car, which was used by the criminals as the getaway vehicle, in another CCTV camera and were trying to trace the suspects using its details.
The footage had been circulated among the informers who tipped the officers that the criminals could be from outer Delhi area or from villages near Haryana border. Raids were conducted on Sunday to nab the accused.
The involvement of an insider or a local from the area was also being probed as the robbers seemed aware that during that time of the day only the owner and one staffer would be present at the shop. Cops said the robbers had conducted a recce and they were scanning the footage of the previous day too for clues.
