PATNA: A Bihar-born businessman in Mumbai, who contested the last Lok Sabha election from Jamui, got an extortion call demanding Rs5 crore.
Upendra Ravidas, the chief managing director (CMD) of a Maharashtra-based shoe company, belongs to Jhajha in the Maoist-hit Jamui district of Bihar.
On November 6, he lodged a complaint with Samta Nagar police station in Mumbai.
Ravidas had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha poll from Jamui as a BSP candidate and had polled 31,598 votes.
When contacted, a police officer posted at Samta Nagar police station said on Friday, "A complaint has been lodged by Ravidas. But I can't share more information related as investigation is underway. We will soon contact our counterparts in Bihar to get more information."
According to the complaint, Ravidas received an anonymous call on his mobile phone on Wednesday to pay Rs5 crore as extortion money. The caller threatened him with dire consequences and disconnected the phone saying 'Lal Salaam'.
