SECUNDERABAD: In the wake of increasing crimes at
Secunderabad Railway Station, officials of South Central Railway (SCR) are planning to rework the provisions of the integrated
security system. According to SCR officials, use of latest technology and foolproof electronic mechanism will be in place at
Secunderabad Railway Station in the near future.
“We had planned to provide security personnel with gadgets such as luggage scanners, and door-frame
metal detector in January itself,” said an SCR official.
But to fulfil its requirements, the station needed to undergo some changes like redesigning entry and exit points in accordance with footfall. “Most of these ideas are already in use, but regular use of under-vehicle scanners and hand-held metal detectors is a must to ensure passenger safety,” the official said.
Another SCR official said: “We will be reviewing the security systems soon and the changes required will also be made once SCR receives guidelines for it.” According to officials, the station has a daily footfall of 1.5 lakh. Escorting of trains and random checking of passengers, and scanning of luggage is done regularly to keep a watch on theft and possibilities of robbery.
