She Teams crack down on harassers in Secunderabad

SECUNDERABAD: Police have been cracking down on people who harass women at public places in Secunderabad, besides Hyderabad. The police said that She Teams nabbed at least 30 eve-teasers within a month.
She Teams conducted decoy operations at Kushaiguda and Jawaharnagar areas under Secunderabad, and nabbed four harassers. “The decoy operations have helped in keeping streets safe for women and girls in the city.The offenders were found harassing women and girls, passing lewd comments and stalking them. There is zero-tolerance policy against such elements,” said a She Team senior official.
Officials said that the number of eve-teasing cases has increased as more women are coming forward to file FIRs against offenders. The number of harassment cases went up gone up to 1,028 in 2018 from 722 the previous year. “Every month at least 30 harassers are nabbed,” said the officer.
The police have also observed a decrease in the number of minors involved in cases such as stalking, passing vulgar comments and making lewd gestures to women on roads. This, they claim is because of counselling and awareness programmes conducted at schools and colleges.
Last month, the police conducted a decoy operation under Malkajgiri limits, and arrested three offenders, and booked them. Most accused in such decoy operations are in the age group of 19 to 30 years.
