PUNE: The Airport police on Monday claimed to have solved nine bank fraud cases, including that of Bank of Maharashtra, following the arrest of three men.
Police identified the arrested as Dhananjay Jadhav (48), Anand Kumar alias Rakesh Parmar (41) and Abhijit Sonawane (30). “Sonawane was arrested on October 31 on the charges of duping the Bank of Maharashtra’s Vinmannagar branch of Rs 10 lakh in a car loan fraud case,” an officer of the Airport police said.
The police in a statement issued on Monday said During questioning, Jadhav confirmed the involvement of Kumar and his accomplice, Sonawane, in the case.
He told the police that both of them helped him in preparing forged documents for obtaining the vehicle loan from the bank.
Consequently, the police arrested Kumar and Sonawane. “During interrogation, it was revealed that Jadhav used to help people seeking vehicle loan by preparing forged documents with the help of Sonawane. The forged documents used to be such that they used to pass banks and their agencies’ scrutiny without any problem. They also would help the loan seekers in opening current accounts in banks for doing financial transactions,” the police statement stated.
Investigations have revealed that Jadhav and Parmar helped numerous people in obtaining loans collectively worth Rs 59.5 lakh from nine government and private banks.
“We have seized four cars based on the information provided by the arrested. We also suspect their involvement in five more fraud cases,” the statement read.
