Guru Nanak Jayanti: Bhindranwale poster creates panic in Gaya
GAYA: A poster depicting Khalistan protagonist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in the Shobha Yatra brought out by the Sikhs to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak has caused panic in Gaya. The Shobha Yatra taken out from Gaya Gurudwara criss crossed the main streets of the town.
Bhindranwale, it may be recalled was a terrorist espousing the cause of Khalistan by carving out the state of Punjab as an independent country.
Bhindrawale was killed during operation Blue Star in June 1984.
The Bhindranwale poster was placed on an e rickshaw. Besides Bhindarawale, portraits of Sant Kabir and Sant Ravidas also formed part of the Shobha Yatra. The Yatra organisers refused to explain the appearance of Bhindrawale portrait in the religious procession. One local Sikh leader said on condition of anonymity that some Sikh militants from outside the state have taken command of the local Gurudwara and they (local Sikhs) too felt terrified.
Though the cut out did not refer to Khalistan, it called Jarnail Singh (Bhindranwale) a "martyr" who was killed during the Indira Gandhi sponsored operation Blue Star.
When contacted Gaya DM Abhishek Singh said that he has got information about the Bhindranwale cut out and the incident was being inquired.
