Bala is a film based on the life of a young man Balmukund Shukla (played by Ayushmann) who is suffering from premature balding. The film also talks about the feelings of people with dark complexion. Through Bala, the makers try to contest the idea of beauty set by the society. Compelling and funny dialogues by Niren Bhatt makes the audience think. The film also questions Bollywood for setting a false idea of beauty in the audience's mind, at the same time Bala adores the feeling called Bollywood.

There are a number of moments when Bala reminds you of uour favourite actors from the industry. It also shows women empowerment in a unique way. Bhumi Pednekar's character Latika, who is a lawyer, is a hard-core feminist who doesn't comply with the norms set by society about the idea of beauty. It is shown that her confidence and intelligence is her beauty. Yami Gautam, on the other hand, plays a light-skinned model and 'Tik-Tok sensation' who is ambitious, knows her qualities and doesn't compromise on her standards.

BALA MOVIE REVIEW:

The film is receiving rave reviews from critics nad audiences alike. Its fun content and contemporary tier 2 city feel is its selling point. With being a phenomenal film, Bala is faulty in parts. Today's Jyoti Kanyal writes, "There is no doubt that Bala is a brilliant film but it comes with its share of flaws. While it works for most parts, the way the makers handled Bhumi Pednekar’s character Latika is a little disappointing. Turning a fair-skinned girl into a dark-skinned one, which doesn’t appear consistent in the film, is unforgivable. The makers should have opted for an actress whose complexion matched the character requirement."
