The Simpsons boss Al Jean has confirmed that the hit series has decided to recast the characters of Martin Prince and Sherri and Terri Mackleberry following the death of voice actor Russi Taylor earlier this year.

Taylor passed away at the age of 75 in July, leaving Simpsons fans concerned about what her passing meant for the popular characters.

Previously, the deaths of key cast members like Phil Hartman and Marcia Wallace has led to the show phasing out characters like Edna Krabappel, Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure, but Al Jean has now confirmed that won't be the case this time.

Ahead of a new episode airing on Sunday (November 10), Jean took to Twitter to announce that voice actor Grey DeLisle would be taking over from Taylor as the voice of the characters.

"New episode tonight! Please welcome @GreyDeLisle as the new voice of Sherri, Terri and Martin Prince," he wrote.

DeLisle is a well-known voice actor within the industry, having worked on projects such as DC Super Hero Girls, Adventure Time, Wonder Woman, The Tom & Jerry Show, Netflix's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and The Book of Life.

DeLisle also voiced Maz Kanata in Star Wars: Battlefront II.

While Taylor was best known to fans of The Simpsons as Martin, Sherri and Terri, she was most well-known for voicing Minnie Mouse herself, and Disney CEO Bob Iger paid tribute to the actress after her passing.

"Minnie Mouse lost her voice with the passing of Russi Taylor," he said.

"For more than 30 years, Minnie and Russi worked together to entertain millions around the world – a partnership that made Minnie a global icon and Russi a Disney Legend beloved by fans everywhere."

"We're so grateful for Russi's talent as well as the tremendous spirit and great joy she brought to everything she did."
