DAZN are looking to produce a Champions League shake-up by landing exclusive rights to air the world's premier club competition in the UK.

The online service has made significant inroads in North America and are plotting to unseat broadcasting giants BT Sport with ITV Sport and Sky also in the mix.

The London-based company has snowballed in popularity since launching in August 2016 and turned heads within the industry when they hired for ESPN president John Skipper as their executive chairman.

The over-the-top subscription service, which bypasses cable and satellite providers to broadcast solely on the Internet, already covers NFL, NBA, and championship boxing in a variety of territories across the globe.

DAZN currently air the Champions League and Europa League across Europe but the Daily Mail report Britain is next on their hitlist by securing the rights to show the tournament between 2021 and 2024.

BT Sport retained their exclusive rights for an eye-popping £1.2billion in 2016 but the winning bid is expected to rise once again this time around.

UEFA closed its right to tender on Monday evening with the winning bid is expected to be announced shortly.

BT Sport are hopeful of a third term as UCL distributors but both Sky and ITV are determined to unseat their rivals.

DAZN could be a game changer, however, and Skipper admits nothing is off the table in the quest to land the biggest events for their service.

He told SportsPro : “If you’re in the UK, you’re going to want to watch rugby and cricket and football and maybe some other things – I don’t think you want a rugby app and a cricket app and a Premier League app and a Champions League app and a snooker app. I think you’re going to want to get all of that in one place.

“There’ll be room for competition, right? Just as there have been a couple of sports entities in most countries, over time there will undoubtedly be more than one [OTT] sports entity. I don’t think it’s feasible for anybody to aggregate all sports into one app, either locally or globally.”
