BENGALURU: Tourism and Kannada and culture minister
CT Ravi on Monday said the BJP cannot go back on its poll promise of scrapping the ACB and strengthening the
Lokayukta as it will hurt the party’s image.
This is in contrast to the stand taken by chief minister BS Yediyurappa, who recently said the government has no intention of dismantling the ACB.
Ravi, a four-time Chikkamagaluru MLA admitted the BJP did not secure a complete majority and had come to power only because Congress and JD(S) MLAs resigned.
“Yes, we came to power in a rather unusual manner but that does not mean we can ignore our poll promises,” Ravi said. He said he will discuss the matter with Yediyurappa and other cabinet colleagues.
Yediyurappa, while releasing his 100 days report, had candidly admitted there was no plan to scrap the ACB. “The ACB is now efficient and is functioning well,” Yediyurappa said. “There is no proposal before the government to scrap it. We are not even discussing it.” But, he promised to “strive to strengthen” the Lokayukta.
