What's going on in the gullies?

As a dramatic adaptation of Vasu Malviya's book Sookhi Nahi Hai Nadi', Punarvasu has directed a musical play that is all set to be performed in an auditorium in Andheri this Sunday. It revolves around simple issues that are made complicated by the people residing in Allahabad's Hanuman gully and Rehman gully, that together make the 'U-shape ki gully', which is also the title of the play.

These gullies are held together by characters such as Bhanga, a politically charged personality who is the complete opposite of Mirza, a chaiwala whose stall is the connecting thread between the two lanes and vegetable vendors, Shabbo and Hariya, whose love story is the saving grace in every crisis that unfolds. Their basic, yet impactful dialogues take you on a journey that breathes through different colours and cultures, underlying hatred, love, survival and more, until everyone is confronted with a question: "Celebrations come and go, but does that mean we scatter?" The play features talented actors Dipika Pandey, Rachna Gupta and Suyash Joshi among others.
