ALLAHABAD: In a suspected suicide pact, a 20-year-old youth and a 18-year-old girl ended their lives by hanging themselves from separate ceilings in Udasu Gadwa village in Charwa police station of the Kaushambi district late on Monday night.
The incident came to light on Tuesday morning after the father of the girl, Ram Lotan arrived at his house from the field and spotted the bodies of his daughter and a youth hanging from separate ceilings.
He immediately called up neighbours who alerted the police station concerned.
The deceased have been identified as Nankul Lal and Gorki Devi, residents of Udasu Gadwa village. According to the police the couple was in a relationship for the last couple of years but could not find the reason behind the suicide pact.
Deputy SP ( Sirathu) Dr Krishna Gopal Singh said that it is suspected that the two entered into a suicide pact. He, however, said that police have been waiting for post mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death.
DSP added that after preliminary investigations, police came to know that the girl had called up the youth of same village at her house in late night hours when her father had gone to the field.
While entering the house, the uncle of the girl spotted the youth entering into girl’s house which he had allegedly locked the main gate of house outside.
Police, however, suspect that fearing social stigma and malign of their images among family members, the duo – youth and his girlfriend – decided to end their lives and hanged themselves from ceiling.
Police also said that hanging sign were marks on the necks of both youth and his girlfriend. DSP, meanwhile, said that police would be taking action once the autopsy reported came in.
