PATNA: A container truck driver was shot at by two bike-borne miscreants for not giving them pass on the national highway near Beur under Gardanibagh police station area in the city around 2.30am on Tuesday.
The injured driver was identified as Vikram Kumar Singh. He was rushed to PMCH for treatment. Gardanibagh SHO Arvind Kumar Gautam told TOI over phone that the driver had received gunshot injuries on his right arm and chin.
He said the container truck was loaded with brand new cars from Chennai. The cargo was to be unloaded at Rupaspur in Patna. Vikram is a native of Paharpur village under Kaler police station area in Arwal.
Police sources, quoting the driver, said two bikers reached near his cabin door from behind and the pillion rider opened fire at him. Vikram had initially failed to realize anything but later observed that he was bleeding. He stopped the truck and co-driver Dhananjay Kumar Gupta and cleaner Rahman stopped a police patrol vehicle for help. Vikram told the police that the miscreants drove away towards Sipara.
The SHO said the bullet fired by the bikers had pierced through Vikram's arm and hit his chin. The empty bullet was recovered from driver's cabin, he said. "It seems the bikers were trying to overtake the truck," he said. He said prima facie it is case of road rage. "No attempts were made to stop the container truck. So any attempt to loot the vehicle or valuables is ruled out," he said.
"Police are scanning the CCTV footages of the nearby area," Gautam added.
