MP KIRRON Kher has come down heavily on UT Chief Engineer Mukesh Anand stating that the condition of city roads is pathetic. Angry with the UT official’s way of dealing with bad roads and other issues, the MP went on to say that “jis din meri chaabi ghoom gayi na. to bass ghoom gayi”.

The MP pulled up the official on the inauguration of the railway underbridge at Manimajra on Monday evening. She said that the condition of roads had never been so bad as it was now. “Main jab tak achchhi hun, bahut achchhi hun. Lekin jis din meri chaabi ghoom gayi, to bass ghoom gayi. Sadkon ka haal dekhiye, Mukeshji (I am very good, but the day I lose my temper, I’ll be very bad. Mukeshji, just see the condition of roads),” Kher told Chief Engineer Mukesh Anand.

Kher was also upset with officials as she said she was dealing with the bureaucratic politics. “Yahan jo bureaucratic politics chalti hai na, uske sath jhoojh ke aage chalna bahut kathin hai (It is very difficult to deal with the bureaucratic politics here),” the MP said.

On pulling up the officer, Kher told Chandigarh Newsline, “I have been doing it privately for a long time. When nothing moves, you have to voice it strongly or nothing happens. Sad but true.”

Chandigarh roads have been really bad since monsoons. The Municipal Corporation may have got the funds to repair the roads but the UT Administration’s roads too are in a bad shape. The MC manages V3, V4, V5, V6, parking roads, village roads, phirni roads in the city and the administration has just V1 and V2 roads to look after. The corporation maintains 1,800 kilometres of roads in the city. The UT Administration’s engineering wing too maintains 1,800 kilometres of roads.

Festive offer

Chief Engineer Anand has been in the eye of storm for quite some time now with many complaints against him.

Mayor Rajesh Kalia has spoken to the SC Commission chairman for being singled out in every function. Kalia said, “Chief Engineer does not invite me. The other day even the Adviser snubbed him that this shouldn’t happen but he again did not invite me to the RUB function. I am sure he never did this with previous mayors and I am being singled out intentionally.”

Last week, the mayor wasn’t invited to the inauguration of the sports complex. He reached the venue and asked the Chief Engineer who said that it skipped from his mind.
