The Supreme Court of India, in its judgement on 17 disqualified Karnataka legislators, upholds Karnataka speaker's decision to disqualify them. However, the SC allows the 17 disqualified MLAs to contest elections saying that Speaker cannot disqualify an MLA till the end of the term of the Assembly. SC strikes down portion of speaker's order which said the MLAs would be disqualified till end of tenure of 15th Karnataka Assembly. The apex court further said that the disqualified MLAs can't become ministers till they get re-elected.
