Yerawada police on Sunday arrested a 41-year-old man for stealing a suitcase containing laptop and other valuables, collectively worth Rs46,000, from a luxury hotel on Ahmednagar Road in Ramwadi on November 7.
A team led by assistant inspector Rahul Giramkar made the arrest. Chief engineer of the water works department of Andhra Pradesh state government, Thota Venkata Nagendra Anji Ratankumar, had filed a complaint with the
Yerawada police on November 7.
The police recovered the booty from the suspect, Atul Chhajed. Assistant sub-inspector Balasaheb Bahirat said Rajkumar had come to Pune to participate in an international conference on ‘sustainable water management’ at the hotel between November 6 and 8.
“On November 7, during the lunch break, Rajkumar kept his suitcase in the corner of the conference hall and went for lunch. The suitcase contained a laptop worth Rs40,000. When he returned, the suitcase was missing from its spot,” Bahirat said.
Rajkumar then filed an FIR with Yerawada police.
