Asheville is seeing temperatures in the teens this morning

Cold air continues to be the main weather headline as temperatures feel raw settling in 20 degrees below normal for the time being. We are looking at rain chances heading into the weekend that could dump some freezing rain before warming to just scattered showers. But before we look ahead, let's do a quick recap of the brutal blast that invaded our area Tuesday and Wednesday. The arctic front brought wind gusts in Asheville near 50 mph, and in the Upstate 20 to30 mph was the average. This created wind chills in the teens and single digits through Wednesday morning. Asheville measured a trace of snow (many outlying areas measured up to 1”) which is rare for November. So rare in fact that since 1869, we've seen snow just 57 times and only 40 were a trace. That means what we saw Tuesday has only happened 40 times in 150 years in November!Interactive radar | Temperatures School delays, closingsLatest alerts here School closings, delays Now onto the next system. An area of low pressure will eject out of the Gulf of Mexico Thursday night into Friday. This will bring wet weather to the area possibly starting as freezing rain before warming to scattered showers. By Saturday, we are back to sunny skies and mid-50s during the day, freezing again that night. It looks like we have to wait until next week before we see 60s for daytime highs or normal conditions.
