A film producer flying premium economy with British Airways claims she was greeted with a filthy seat and someone's old sock.
Lucy Darwin splashed out £4,700 on return flights to New York, including business class on the way back, with the airline for her and her husband to attend the American Film Institute's annual festival.
However the couple said their seats were covered in crumbs, stains and even an old sock.
Lucy said: "British Airways? just arrived at our premium economy seats to New York, costing £4,700, to be greeted by filth and someone's sock.
"Outraged doesn't quite cover it."
She tweeted a photo, saying the service was a "disgrace".
That was followed by second photo which showed the tray table covered in dark stains and more crumbs.
Lucy added: "It got worse... cabin staff embarrassed and kind but this really is appalling."
British Airways responded by saying: "This certainly isn't what you should expect when travelling with us, Lucy.
"I'll make sure this is fed back for you."
Twitter users responded with their shock at the condition of the seats.
Laura Phillips said: "Oh, that's disgusting."
Thomas Dillon wrote: "Such a shame - they have trashed the brand in the last few years."
Adrienne Grierson blasted: "Premium economy is a joke.
"It's just economy with a meal and a drink holder.
"I learned that the hard way."
Lucy was attending the festival in New York to speak about the film He Dreams of Giants.
The movie is about Monty Python star Terry Gilliam's attempt to complete a film adaptation of Don Quixote.
Lucy produced the picture,and has also worked on Lost In La Mancha and Match Point.
Other films being shown at the week-long festival include Netflix's the Two Popes, starring Anthony Hopkins, the Aeronauts, with Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones , and the world premiere of Clint Eastwood's new movie Richard Jewell.
She says she spent £4,700 on return tickets for her and her husband - flying premium economy on the trip out and Club World on the return leg.
A British Airways spokesman said: "We pride ourselves on the quality of the service and experience offered across all cabins on our aircraft.
"We know that our customers value a comfortable cabin, so our aircraft are cleaned after every flight."
