Our childhood memories are something we always cherish and hold close to our hearts. On Children’s Day today,
Bollywood celebrities share fond memories and pictures of their growing-up days with BT...
Varun DhawanAs a kid, I was an embarrassment for my brother (Rohit) as I would break into a dance, impromptu, at a lot of functions like marriages and birthday parties. I was very naughty and would pick a fight with kids who were older than me in school.
I also enjoyed bullying younger kids.
Kangana Ranaut
I grew up in the mountains... it was all very organic and beautiful. I was an unintentionally naughty child. My mother even today fondly remembers some of the things that I used to do. I did what a lot of girls do — take mom’s lipsticks and dupattas, pretend to wear a sari and behave like a diva. I also liked cooking. When I was tiny, I made some blunders, but things changed as I grew up.
Jacqueline FernandezI really enjoyed joining my brothers in whatever they did, no matter how sporty or adventurous it would be. I remember, one day, they let me join their football game and made me a goalie.
They kicked the ball straight on my face
and knocked me unconscious!
Sidharth MalhotraI remember an incident from my childhood. I used to charm and butter up my dadi, so I could get `50 from her. I used to spend that money on hot chocolate fudge sundae, at an ice-cream parlour in Delhi. My dadi could make me do anything in return for that `50. From mowing the lawn to getting her essentials from the market and even sitting through a puja, she could make me do anything!
Anil KapoorI was a combination of a brash and naughty kid. My school principal used to call me a savage (laughs!). I used to bunk classes a lot. I did a lot of masti and was always a backbencher. My teachers used to get annoyed so much, that they would always punish me. ‘Last row mein khada kardo usko, get out, you are expelled’ — that’s how they would yell at me. So, in school, either I would be at the last bench or I would be kneeling down outside the classroom.
Raveena TandonI have always had this habit of picking up strays and bringing them home. Luckily, my parents understood that and supported me. When I was around two years old, I picked up a kitten and got it home. Very recently, too, I picked up a kitten that we have named Puma. What’s surprising is that it is similar to the one that I had when I was a kid. It has the same spots on its body that the earlier one had. My mother pointed it out recently. There’s another instance I remember... when I was five, I was travelling with my father in his car. He had stopped the car at a garage. I got off the car and started throwing stones at some boys. He intervened and asked why was I doing that and I told him that it’s because those boys were throwing pebbles at a crow.
Sunny LeoneI was a tomboy when I was a child. I used to play street hockey a lot. I would always call myself ‘The Wall’ as nobody would be able to pass my defense. I would always get scolded by my parents as I was independent and would do my
own things.
Sanya MalhotraGrowing up, all my friends, as well as family, used to call me noodles because of my curly hair. I would find it funny
and laugh it off.
Juhi ChawlaI used to love getting autographs from celebrities. I remember an incident when I landed on a film’s shoot to get my autograph book signed. I walked up to Om Prakashji, who was in between a shot. He was very sweet, I remember he made a smiley in the ‘O’ of his first name ‘Om’ in my autograph book. Then I went to an actress, who was among the leading heroines then. I was hovering around her, trying to get her attention, but she barely looked at me while signing my book. I was a little heartbroken, as she didn’t look at me. At that point, I had no idea that I will grow up to become an actress myself. When I did become one, I saw to it that I kept the kids happy. Till today, whenever children come to me with their autograph books, I always look at them and smile.
