Imphal, Nov. 13 (EMN): At least 18 people were injured when an Imphal-bound bus met with an accident between Maram and Makhan, along the Imphal-Dimapur highway (National Highway – 2), on November 13, sources said.

According to reports, the Imphal-bound bus (MN04-9801) started its journey from Guwahati on Tuesday with 21 passengers on board. However, three passengers reportedly alighted at Kohima before the bus carrying the remaining 18 headed for Imphal.

The incident reportedly happened while giving way to an oncoming vehicle. The bus tipped over sideways near a curve located between Maram and Makhan area of the highway at around 1.50 pm and fell into a gorge, sources said.

The accident site is located about 80 km north of Imphal.

The injured were immediately shifted to the medical centre of the 34th Assam Rifles, located near the accident vicinity in Manipur’s Senapati district, for first aid. Later, nine of the injured were taken to District Hospital, Senapati, 60 km north of Imphal for further treatment.

Sources said that all the injured, except two construction workers, have been discharged from the district hospital after receiving necessary treatment. The two construction workers identified as Santulal Ahmed (21) and Abdul Irani(30), both from Assam, are also said to be in a stable condition.
