Ooredoo announced yesterday that it would sponsor the upcoming Ooredoo Kids Cup 2019, a junior football tournament organised by Evolution Sports Qatar in the run-up to Qatar 2022.
The tournament — set to be held on Friday and Saturday  at Doha College Al Waab — will give teams of five and seven from local schools the opportunity to compete in a series of games that will consist of a group then knockout phase to decide which teams will play in the finals.
Two age groups will be playing in the event: under 9s and under 11s, with the under 9s teams playing tomorrow (Friday), and under 11s playing on Saturday. There will be between 5 and 10 teams per age group, with a presentation for the winning teams after the matches.
The Ooredoo Kids Cup is being organised as part of the build-up to Qatar 2022, in line with the country’s 2030 vision of human development. The ambition is to roll out the tournament to include all elementary schools in Qatar and create a nationwide junior football tournament that promotes everyday physical activity as part of an active, healthy lifestyle.
Manar Khalifa Al Muraikhi,  Director PR and Corporate Communications, said: “Supporting sporting events that promote an active, healthy lifestyle for the communities in which we operate is a key part of our corporate social responsibility strategy. We are delighted to be sponsoring the Ooredoo Kids Cup, which we believe is the perfect opportunity to bring schools together and encourage students to get active and get involved in sport, in preparation for the biggest sporting event Qatar has ever seen.”
James Mwale, Foundation Manager at Evolution Sports, said: “In line with our core values and objectives for The Evo Foundation, we are delighted to be working with Ooredoo as we aspire to encourage sports participation across Qatar. Working with existing and new school partners, we are ecstatic to be delivering such a key community event.”
