VISAKHAPATNAM: Panic triggered off at the Siripuram crossing on Thursday evening after a fire broke out at Dutt Island - a posh residential–cum–commercial complex – located in the heart of the beach city of Visakhapatnam.
The fire broke out from the display board of the gymnasium located on the first floor of the five storied building. While first two floors of the building have a wine store, a few cafeterias, a restaurant, a photo studio, a medicine stop, a departmental store, a few offices and the gymnasium the rest three floors are residential.
Soon after the fire broke out all the shopkeepers, customers and residents of the building were evacuated.
The main switch of the building was turned off and the entire building turned pitch dark.
“Prima facie, it seems that the fire resulted due to a short circuit. A fire tender was pressed into service but fire was under control before it could reach the spot,” said a security official from the building.
Police confirmed that there were no injuries or casualties.
