PUNE: Dighi police on Wednesday booked a constable, who is posted with the Pune city police, for raping a 26-year-old woman after promising to marry her.
The woman lodged a complaint with the Dighi police station saying that she and the constable were in a relationship for couple of years and he raped her after winning her confidence by professing his love.
Police said that the constable was currently posted with the Police Motor Vehicle Transport department.
Recently, he refused to marry her stating that he was younger than her. The constable is 24-year-old, while the woman is 26 and he claimed that his family members were not ready to accept this fact.
The woman this development with her parents and sister. Her parents made a call to him seeking clarification on his stance, but the constable threatened them of dire consequences to them, the FIR states.
Police said that the constable also threatened the family members and told them that none of the police stations will accept their complaint. He terrorised the family members and they decided to settle the issue amicably.
Police said that the woman and the constable decided to have a meeting to settle the issue but during the meeting, the constable beat her up. Following this, the woman approached the police.
