PUNE: The India armed forces 69th inter services wrestling championship got underway at the Army Sports Institute (ASI) in Ghorpadi here from November 12.
Brigadier Anupam Chattoraj, Brigadier Medical, Headquarters, Southern Command, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony and declared the championship open.
The opening ceremony was attended by more than 200 wrestlers, coaches and officials from Army Services Control Board (ASCB) and Services Sports Control Board (SSCB).

The wrestling event started with bouts in free style (57kg) between Army Red and Navy teams. This was followed by bouts in the 74kg, 92kg and 125kg categories in free style and 72kg, 82kg and 130kg categories in Greco Roman style.
"Indian Army Red, Indian Army Green, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy are participating in the championship. The event will see the likes of world silver medalist and junior world champion naib subedar Deepak Punia (86kgs free style), Rio 2016 Olympics participant naib subedar Ravinder Khatri, senior Asian bronze medalist havildar Gyanender and national champion in 65kg free style junior warrant officer Harful, in action," a Southern Command release stated.
"The event is expected to be keenly contested as the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force teams are expected to put up a stiff competition to the Army teams," the statement added.
