NEW DELHI: A 32-year old convict serving his term at the Rohini Jail was found dead on Wednesday morning. Prima facie the cause of death appears to be a cardiac arrest, however, jail authorities are waiting for the autopsy report. A magisterial enquiry into the issue is underway.
The convict, identified as Honey, was found unconscious inside his jail cell on Wednesday around 4.30am.
There were no injury marks on the body or any sign of foul play. He was rushed to the jail hospital and then referred to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital. The doctors treated him but after a couple of hours, he was pronounced dead.
“Honey was arrested for robbery and was later convicted,” said a jail official.
Last week, Mukesh Chopra, a US citizen, also died after he fell off the balcony at the Tihar prison while he was being taken to the counsellor as a part of the routine procedure. Chopra was arrested on charges of stealing books from the Manekshaw centre and was also being interrogated by the intelligence agencies for any espionage links.
