  • Mayank and Rahane helped India extend lead after Kohli's rare failure

India captain Virat Kohli may not have troubled the scorers in the ongoing 1st Test between India and Bangladesh but he motivated Mayank Agarwal to continue his fine scoring form.

Mayank Agarwal hit his 2nd double hundred in only his 8th Test as he continued to punish the Bangladesh bowlers on Day 2 of Indore Test. India skipper Virat Kohli was all smiles as Mayank gestured his captain pointing two fingers. And Virat responded with a signal asking him to carry on and get a triple hundred.

Earlier, as Mayank Agarwal raised his bat and acknowledged the applause from the dressing room after getting to 150, Virat Kohli had signalled to him to carry on and get a double hundred.

Mayank Agarwal then raised his thumb and acknowledged Virat Kohli's signal from the dressing room.

Mayank Agarwal has had a dream run in Test cricket ever since he made his debut in Melbourne last year. While he had wait for his maiden Test hundred a bit more than he would have liked to, Agarwal has made it a point to score daddy hundreds after breaching the 3-figure mark for the first time.

In fact, Mayank Agarwal joined an elite list by converting his maiden hundred into a double hundred in the 1st of a 3-match Test series against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. In the next Test in Pune, Mayank scored 108.

On Friday, Mayank was happy to play 2nd fiddle to uncharacteristically aggressive Cheteshwar Pujara. However, after Pujara got out early in the day, Mayank partnered with Ajinkya Rahane and steered India out of trouble.

Mayank played the old-fashioned way by respecting the good balls and not missing out on an opportunity to punish the bad balls.

After he got to his 100, Mayank switched gears and took the Bangladesh attack, especially their spinners, to the cleaners. With 3 sixes and 21 boundaries, Mayank was unbeaten on 156 at Tea on Friday.

Having stitched an unbeaten 180-plus stand with his vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, Mayank Agarwal will be keen on delivering on the promise he has made to his captain.
