Haiti - FLASH : USA cancels the American visa of «Don Kato»
Senator of the radical opposition Antonio Chéramy aka "Don Kato" confirmed on the airwaves of a local radio, that the American Consulate in Haiti had revoked his visa, a measure that he attributes to his political positions and that he described as an attempt to intimidate.

The US Embassy in Port-au-Prince, for its part, refrains from commenting on this, referrig on US law and the confidentiality of Visas, recalling only that the State Department has wide powers to revoke any time the visas of a private citizen, a diplomat or an official like Senator Cheramy.

However for "Don Kato" there is no doubt that it is for his fight for the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse that the Americans have taken this step saying they do not want the departure of President Moïse and "They say that I represent a threat to the Americans."

If according to Senator Cheramy this measure leaves him indifferent because he does not travel to the United States, nevertheless, it is a clear signal sent to many other radical opposition leaders and personalities who, without visas, would be more affected than "Don Kato".

Recall that Jon Piechowski, Deputy Under-Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy at the Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs in an interview last October on The Voice of America Creole, asked about the concerns of some Haitian opposition leaders that the United States was considering canceling their visas as a means of pressure replied, "Of course there are always measures we can take against people who commit crimes or who behave undemocratically, but I don’t want to speculate on that at this time,” he said. “What we desire is for all political stakeholders in Haiti to sit together and enter into dialogue as soon as possible to discuss forming a government." https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29142-haiti-flash-usa-insist-on-dialogue-and-support-president-moise.html
