LUCKNOW: Even five days after Amethi Police’s Twitter account was hacked and a warning posted from its handle to a journalist for her tweet on Ayodhya issue, Uttar Pradesh police have failed to trace the culprit.
On November 8, the columnist, had tweeted, “Tomorrow is a big day for India. The Babri Masjid, a monument of faith for Indian Muslims was demolished on 6th Dec 1992 by those in power today.
It changed my life and a generation of Muslims who were ‘othered’ overnight. I hope my country does not disappoint me tomorrow.”

The tweet was posted around 11.30pm. Hours later, Amethi police, replied to the tweet from its official twitter handle, “You have made a political comment. Delete it immediately, otherwise legal action will be taken against you.”
By November 9 morning, both the tweets were deleted (TOI has screen shots of both tweets), while Amethi police had blocked the journalist.
When TOI spoke to SP Amethi, Khyati Garg, on November 9, she said the official account of Amethi police was accessed by somebody who posted a warning to a journalist over her tweet. Garg also told TOI that an FIR was lodged under IT Act in the case.
When TOI again called up Garg on Thursday for update in the case, the officer said it had been established that the account was hacked and police have sought information from twitter about the login and other details of the person who posted the tweet. Police is yet to get a response from twitter, she said.
However, the investigation officer of the case registered at Gauriganj police station, Parshuram Ojha, told TOI that he was not even aware of any such case having been allotted to him.
Ojha was initially hesitant to talk to TOI.
