Eighteen injured in fire breakout at company in Raigad during demo of fire extinguishing system
Navi Mumbai : A major fire break out reportedly due to malfunction during demonstration of a fire extinguishing system at a company in Mangaon, Raigad has caused severe burn injuries to eighteen workers, on Friday around 4.30pm.
The company manufactures clean agent fire extinguishing system. The blaze occured at Cryptzo Engineering Private Limited, when a demonstration was being conducted in the server room.
There were 34 workers in the company when the blaze occurred.
Mangaon police sub-inspector Priyanka Burungale said, “Five of the 18 injured have sustained over 60 percent burn injuries whereas remaining thirteen have 20 - 30 percent burns. Statements of the victims and other workers are yet to be recorded."
Some of the severely injured are admitted to JJ hospital, Mumbai.
Ashok Kotian, director of the company, did not respond to repeated phone calls.
Raigad police PRO Suresh Yamgar said, “During the demonstration for testing of the fire suppression system, it malfunctioned and the fire, which was lit for the demonstration, could not be extinguished. Thus, resulting in a major fire break out that impacted the workers outside the server room. The 18 injured workers were rushed to Mangoan sub-district rural hospital."

Local MLA Bharat Gogawale said, “The injured have been sent to the MGM Hospital-Kamothe and National Burns Hospital-Airoli. The victims were sent to hospitals in whatever vehicle available. Any safety lapse on the company’s part will be taken up seriously.”
One of the victim’s relative Mangesh Batawale said, “The testing was being done in a closed area with some workers inside. The possibility of gas leakage during the demonstration cannot be ruled out given the burn injuries of workers.”
National Burn Centre medical director Dr Sunil Keswani said, “Two of the victims have arrived here and are being treated."
