The CM said the Tikapatti-based District Institute of Education Training (DIET) would now be named after Mahatma Gandhi. Nitish also inquired from officers and local people about the Tikapatti-based ‘Swaraj Ashram’ and the ‘Buniyadi Vidyalaya’ which were opened by Gandhi during his visit to the village on April 10, 1934, months after famous Bihar earthquake of January 15, 1934 that caused heavy destruction in major parts of north Bihar and Nepal.

The CM also laid a flower wreath on the memorial of freedom fighter and well-known revolutionary Surya Narayan Mandal who was native of Tikapatti village. “It was Mandal who had donated five acres of land to Gandhi for opening ‘Swaraj Ashram’ in the village,” an official accompanying the CM during his visit to the village told TOI over phone.
While addressing the villagers, the CM said the Tikapatti based Buniyadi Vidyalaya would be linked with a project of the Patna-based Development Management Institute (DMI) for its revival on the very pattern of the Buniyadi schools of East and West Champaran districts. The state government has given a project to the DMI for revival of Buniyadi schools which were opened by Gandhi during Champaran Satyagrah.
The CM also announced to upgrade the local additional primary health centre into a 30-bed community health centre.
Responding to the local people representatives’ demand of carving out a separate block at Tikapatto, out of Rupauli, Nitish said the state government has constituted a committee headed by the deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi to look into the demands of new blocks and sub-divisions. “When the committee will look into such demands, it will also take up the case of Tikapatti,” he said.
Later, Nitish visited Madhepura district and conducted a spot inspection of NH-106 and 107. After the inspection, the CM held a meeting with senior district officials to review the progress of different roads in Madhepura district. He asked the officers to expedite the work of land acquisition for roads and ensure completion of different road projects within stipulated period. He also asked for ensuring quality in construction of the roads.
